Thoughts of a talker

For years I have been told that I talk TOO much, but I've always ignored what people around me were telling me. Until recently when I decided that I would try and become more of a listener and less of a talker which is why I thought I would blog about my experience.

When I initially started this idea I started researching methods of talking less. Yet I came across alot of information which made talkers sound self-centered, which was a bit upsetting since most of what I found sounded like it was written by someone who is a listener and not a talker. Also there isn't much useful information online that helps talkers overcome this habit.

For those of you who aren't talkers let me explain what it's like for me as a talker. While talking to another person suddenly I get this urge to talk. The words literally jump out of my mouth before I can think! In a way words coming out of my mouth is as fast as when u jump after you've been burnt. I know it sounds stupid. but that is preety much how it is for me as a talker. Now i'm not saying a talker has the right to naw your ear off, and yes I have been around people who talk more than me. So I do understand how irritating it can be.

Some might think that shy people are worse off yet both shy and talkative people have there own struggles.
Below are some cons of being a shy person
  • People may think your arrogant
  • Hard to make friends
and here are some cons of being a talkative person
  • People going out of their way to avoid you
  • Getting told of at work/school/home
Btw telling a talker not to talk is like telling a smoker to go cold turkey!!!

So now that you know a bit about a talkers life lets see if I can change a talker into a listener.
If your a talker/listener let us at GGI know of your experiences or any advice you may have.
